RECAP: HCCFrenzy Presents: Fall Preview - The Future of YA

Last Thursday in a trendy  little part of Liberty Village in Toronto Bookmark Belles & a bunch of Book Bloggers got invited to attend the YA Fall Preview event thrown by Harper Collins Canada/ HCC Frenzy  it was hosted in a swanky little shop called Vocado. The atmosphere was intimate and yet fun.

This was Bookmark Belles first publishing event & the excitement was titillating

(yes I used the word titillating...lol) & Kelly & I not seeing each other in over 7 months added to the excitement! Kelly & I arrived rather early wanted to make sure we got there on time. So to kill some time we headed next door to grab some OMG! mouthwatering  delicious cupcakes @ For The Love Of Cake Kelly's treat.

So it was finally time to go in at the door we were greeted by Vikki with whom, the previous night I was twit chatting with about my love of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She handed us our name tags (Hello my name is...)lol The tags made it so much easier to put a face to all the blog names we know & love I even found
Megan @ Paperbook Princess with whom I was chatting online that afternoon before the event.
(Yah new bookie friend).

Now here are the directions for the nights event there are 5 stations each with different YA genres & a Harper rep gushing about the love of their stations! Oh & to make it even more easier to mix and mingle we were split up into tiny groups so here is how it went =D

THE NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK: Suman

Gloss by Marilyn Kaye - Suman described it as Gossip Girl  meets Mad Men with a  look at what really goes on  behind the scenes of a fashion magazine . I instantly thought of the ladies from Sex in the city via their college years..lol

Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis - This is one that has been on my radar since I saw a cover reveal for it awhile back .If you follow our blog  then you know how much I love Dystopian  & this sounds like this will be  a cream of the crop read . What would you if even having to much water was illegal??

If You Could Be Mine by Sara Farizan - Is such a fresh read that is so different I had seen the cover floating around on blogs . Its about two you girls who live in Iran who ended up falling in, But Iran is a dangerous place for two girls in love—Sahar and Nasrin could be beaten, imprisoned, even executed if their relationship came to light. I love reads like this especially for our generation

CONTEMPORARY - Kaiti

How to LoveThe Beginning of Everything

How to Love by Katie Cotugno - Think of it as 16 Teen & Pregnant but with morals! But Its also about old loves that get a second chance at finding love again .

The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider - First of I wanna say there was a title change to this book which I wasn't thrilled about cause I was so in love with the original title Severed Heads, Broken Hearts .I know the title is a bit WOW! but it was one of those titles that stuck in your head. It follows Ezra Faulkner the golden boy who has it all until one horrid night changes everything & how difficult it is to play the part that people expect, when you cant do it anymore.

CREEPTASTIC CORNER - Jessica ( My Fave Corner)

3:59AsylumThe Brokenhearted

3:59 by Gretchen McNeil - Here  comes a riveting and deliciously eerie story about the lives we wish we had – and how they just might kill you.  Josie Byrne's life is spiraling out of control. Her parents are divorcing, her boyfriend Nick has grown distant, and her physics teacher has it in for her. When she's betrayed by the two people she trusts most, Josie thinks things can't get worse.

Until she starts having dreams about a girl named Jo. Every night at the same time—3:59 a.m.

Josie and Jo realize that they are doppelgängers living in parallel universes that overlap every twelve hours at exactly 3:59. Fascinated by Jo's perfect world, Josie jumps at the chance to jump through the portal and switch places for a day.

Asylum by Madeleine RouxAsylum is a thrilling and creepy photo-novel perfect for fans of the New York Times bestseller Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

That tag line & cover was enough to drag me in , I so wanted that book on the spot! Its about this guy named Dan Crawford, An outcast at his high school, But Dan is attending a  New Hampshire College Prep Summer Program, &  Dan is excited to finally make some friends in his last summer before college. But when he arrives at the program, Dan learns that his dorm for the summer used to be a sanatorium, more commonly known as an asylum. And not just any asylum—a last resort for the criminally insane.
(P.S Shannon gave me my very own copy booyah!)

The Brokenhearted by Amelia KahaneyJessica labeled this book  "The Dark Knight"

A teenage girl is transformed into a reluctant superhero and must balance her old life with the dark secret of who she has become.
Prima ballerina Anthem Fleet is closely guarded by her parents in their penthouse apartment. But when she meets the handsome Gavin at a party on the wrong side of town, she is immediately drawn into his dangerous world. Then, in a tragic accident, Anthem falls to her death. She awakes in an underground lab, with a bionic heart ticking in her chest. As she navigates her new life, she uncovers the sinister truth behind those she trusted the most, and the chilling secret of her family lineage…and her duty to uphold it.

The Dark Knight meets Cinder in this gripping and cinematic story of heartbreak and revenge. (Want Now

THE SPECIAL GUEST:
CORA CARMACK

Losing It (Losing It, #1)Faking It (Losing It, #2)
Cora  turned out to be he special guest author that HCC Frenzy was so hush hush about & we where  so excited to meet her, Kelly especially since she found out Cora & Abbi Glines were great friends .

Cora talked about her two NA Books that are sure to make you blush Losing ItFaking It she wrote this series after a college experience she had , she was looking to read a book geared more towards a college students perspective but had no luck so she took the next step and wrote one talk about gutsy  Ooh! did I mention she was also a blogger turned writer way cool also.

Losing It

Bliss Edwards is about to graduate from college and still has hers. Sick of being the only virgin among her friends, she decides the best way to deal with the problem is to lose it as quickly and simply as possible-- a one-night stand. But her plan turns out to be anything but simple when she freaks out and leaves a gorgeous guy alone and naked in her bed with an excuse that no one with half-a-brain would ever believe. And as if that weren’t embarrassing enough, when she arrives for her first class of her last college semester, she recognizes her new theatre professor. She’d left him naked in her bed about 8 hours earlier

Faking It -

Mackenzie “Max” Miller has a problem. Her parents have arrived in town for a surprise visit, and if they see her dyed hair, tattoos, and piercings, they just might disown her. Even worse, they’re expecting to meet a nice, wholesome boyfriend, not a guy named Mace who has a neck tattoo and plays in a band. All her lies are about to come crashing down around her, but then she meets Cade.

Cade moved to Philadelphia to act and to leave his problems behind in Texas. So far though, he’s kept the problems and had very little opportunity to take the stage. When Max approaches him in a coffee shop with a crazy request to pretend to be her boyfriend, he agrees to play the part. But when Cade plays the role a little too well, they’re forced to keep the ruse going. And the more they fake the relationship, the more real it begins to feel.

After visiting all the stations were set free to mingle with everyone ,while munching out on some yummy fruit, cookies & mini muffins while sipping on sparkling water =D. When it was time to leave we were greeted with goodie bags featuring 2 of the books discussed that evening  plus a Gloss lip-gloss and fortune cookie.

Kelly & I wanna give a special thanks to
Harper Collins/HCCFrenzy for hosting such an ah-amazing event & a special thank you to Vikki for inviting us and to all the Harper Collins Reps for taking the time to discuss all the great books with us, It was such a great night!
