Summary:
Since a horrible accident claimed the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever can see auras, hear people's thoughts, and know a person's life story by touch. Going out of her way to shield herself from human contact to suppress her abilities has branded her as a freak at her new high school but everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste. Ever sees Damen and feels an instant recognition. He is gorgeous, exotic and wealthy, and he holds many secrets. Damen is able to make things appear and disappear, he always seems to know what she's thinking - and he's the only one who can silence the noise and the random energy in her head. She doesn't know who he really is or what he is. Damen equal parts light and darkness, and he belongs to an enchanted world where no one ever dies.
My Review:
So I'll start off with Ever's friends who ended up being the typical high school out casts which honestly I didn't care to much for Haven typical spoiled rich girl who dresses and does outrageous things to get attention and Miles turns out to be your typical gay friend.
So as we read on Evermore is based around Ever and Damon Since the terrible accident, Ever walked away with an unusual side effect - she can see auras and the ghost of her dead sister. She goes to live with her rich aunt. There she attends school and tries to lead as much of a normal life as possible. Her world changes when a new student, Damon, joins her class. He is unlike anyone she has ever met. He's mysterious and can do things that most people cannot, like run exceptionally fast and displays superior strength and that he is utterly gorgeous looking. But it’s not his complete gorgeousness that has me so transfixed. It has nothing to do with that. It’s mainly the way the entire area surrounding his body, starting from his glorious head and going all the way down to the square-cut toes of his motorcycle boots, consists of nothing but blank empty space. No color. No aura. No pulsing light now as Ever is explaining this let me tell you how I envisioned it so quickly and so realistically damn!
So when Damen seems interested in befriending her, so she slowly lets her guard down, and lets him in. But Damen is confusing the heck out of her. He literally runs hot and cold. From wooing her with tulips, trying to get through her defenses, by spending meaningful time alone with her, to simply disappearing from her life for days. From telling her how special she is to him, to her realizing she still doesn’t even have his phone number! And then ignoring her completely and flirting with the main mean girl (and publicly giving her rosebuds!! Right in front of Ever!! UGH!!) Yes this guy drove me crazy! What was his bleeping problem? and what was with all games he playing, and why? Was he the good guy, or the bad guy? All of this drama kept me reading and on my toes . I was dying to know.
My Final Thoughts:
One thing for certain, however, is that, reading this as grown up , I did not like some of the messages I was sending to younger readers on the relationship end. The whole, “putting up with a hot guy’s games” was disturbing. I wished that Ever had a little more “hard-ass” to her, when it came to Damen. Ever was a vulnerable teen who had already been through so much in her young life and the games she endured, the turmoil she had to work through at the expense of her heart really bugged me. Well, I guess there are these kinds of things happening in every young girls world now days. Maybe deep down, I could understood where she was coming from, and that’s probably what bothered me the most. Working one’s way through the fog of crushes, lust and eventually true love in a young woman’s world is bad enough, but to have it happen to a girl who already lost her whole world at that age OMG! … *if* Damen was the good guy, then he should have played games. But, it’s not just about a romance, as there is more to Ever then meets the eye (stuff she doesn’t even realize). Overall, a good book, a few little surprises (I thought I had it figured out, but I was wrong), and I will be continuing the series thank you Alyson Noel.
